Ergonomic Chair Showroom Singapore: What to Test Before You Buy
An ergonomic chair does not become right for you because it has a long feature list. The useful question is whether you can set it up to support your body while typing, reading, leaning forward and reclining. That is why a genuine showroom test should take more than a quick sit.
At ULTI’s Singapore showroom, you can compare the current ergonomic-chair range alongside standing desks and monitor arms at 1 Boon Leat Terrace, #01-02, Singapore 119843. Walk-ins are welcome during showroom hours.
Set the chair up before deciding whether it is comfortable
A display chair set for someone else can feel wrong immediately. Begin with seat height: feet should rest naturally on the floor, thighs should be supported without pressure behind the knees, and your elbows should be able to reach the keyboard at a relaxed height. Then adjust one element at a time.
The detailed chair-fit sequence
Seat height and depth
Set the height for stable feet. Sit right back against the backrest. You want a small gap behind the knee rather than the seat edge pressing into it. If the chair has seat-depth adjustment, move it gradually until the thigh is supported without forcing you forward.
Lumbar support
Place lumbar support at the natural curve of your lower back, not at the waist or high into the mid-back. More pressure is not automatically better. If you feel a hard point after several minutes, reduce the adjustment or try a different backrest shape. Read ULTI’s lumbar-support adjustment guide for troubleshooting.
Armrests
Set armrest height so your shoulders do not rise when your forearms rest lightly. Then check the armrests can move under the desk at your chosen chair height. This is one of the most common home-office failures: a chair may feel good alone but prevent you from getting close enough to the keyboard.
Backrest and recline
Lean back slowly. A good recline should feel controlled and supportive, not like a spring that throws you backwards or a rigid lock that makes position changes difficult. Test upright typing, a gentle recline for calls, and the way you naturally shift while concentrating.
Run the “real work” test
Stay in the chair for at least five minutes. Type, reach for a mouse, look at a screen at your usual height, then stand and sit again. Pay attention to whether you begin perching forward, crossing one leg to escape a pressure point, lifting your shoulders, or sliding off the seat. Those are fit signals, not habits to ignore.
Consider the room and climate
Material choice is personal, but ventilation, cleaning and long workdays matter in Singapore’s humidity. Measure your desk height and room clearance too. A chair can be excellent yet unsuitable if its armrests collide with the desktop, its base hits a cabinet, or its recline needs more wall clearance than the room allows.
Test the chair with the whole workstation
A chair, desk and monitor position are one system. At ULTI, you can test a chair beside electric standing desks and discuss compatible monitor positioning. If you work long hours, check the desk’s seated height first, then see whether a switch to standing gives you a natural change of posture instead of asking the chair to solve every discomfort.
Shortlist by fit, not marketing terms
| Question | What a useful answer looks like |
|---|---|
| Does the chair fit? | Feet supported; thighs and lower back supported without pressure points. |
| Do the armrests work? | Shoulders relaxed and chair can approach the desk. |
| Can I change position? | Recline and adjustments are controlled and easy to use. |
| Does it suit my room? | Enough clearance for chair movement and the intended desk height. |

FAQ
Should I choose mesh or cushioned upholstery?
Choose the material that suits your comfort, ventilation and care preferences after testing fit and adjustment first. Material alone does not make a chair ergonomic.
Can a short or tall user use the same chair?
Sometimes, but adjustment ranges matter. Test seat height, depth, lumbar location and armrests at your own settings rather than assuming a chair is universal.
Can the showroom help with a corporate order?
Yes. For multiple workstations, ULTI can discuss corporate and bulk requirements with the workspace context in mind.
