Record the clear width and depth of the desk position, the route from the building entrance to the room, and anything that limits access such as a lift, doorway, skirting, window ledge or fixed cabinet. For a sit-stand desk, also measure where a chair, drawer unit and PC will sit when the desk is at its lowest and highest positions.

Use a three-part check before ordering

1. Fit: compare the usable desktop area with your equipment, including monitor-arm clamps, laptop stands, speakers and a writing zone. Leave space behind the desk if cables or arms need to move.

Example: checking a desk setup before delivery

Imagine a desk that fits between two walls when measured as a static rectangle. The setup can still fail in daily use if a desktop PC is fixed to the floor, a monitor arm cannot clear the wall, or a power lead becomes tight when the desk rises. A better plan is to place masking tape at the proposed footprint, sit in the chair, and trace where equipment and cables will travel from low to high positions.

Record these numbers
