Some movement is different from an unstable desk

Every tall desk frame has more leverage at its highest position than when lowered, so a small amount of movement can be noticeable. A sudden increase in wobble, a desk that rocks at one corner, visible frame movement or an uneven lifting motion needs a closer check before you keep using it.

Start with the floor and feet

Move loose objects away from the desk and check whether all feet touch the floor evenly. Uneven tile joints, rugs, cable bundles or a soft carpet can make a stable frame feel unsteady. Use only the desk manufacturer approved levelling method; do not stack loose items under a desk foot.

Then check the frame and load

  1. Lower the desk and disconnect power before inspecting accessible frame fasteners.
  2. Use the product assembly instructions to confirm that the listed bolts are seated and tightened correctly. Do not overtighten or substitute hardware.
  3. Check the total desktop load against the model stated capacity, including monitors, arms, PCs, speakers and accessories.
  4. Place the heaviest items close to the desk centre where practical. A fully extended monitor arm can make display movement more noticeable.
  5. Raise and lower the desk with a clear path, watching for snagging cables or an obstacle that affects travel.

Is it the desk, the monitor arm or the monitor?

Test one component at a time. If the desktop is steady but the screen moves, inspect the monitor arm joints, VESA plate and monitor weight against the arm stated range. If the whole desktop moves, focus on the floor contact, frame and desk load. Never tighten an arm or desk beyond its manufacturer instructions to compensate for wobble.

When to stop and contact support

Stop using the desk if it leans, rises unevenly, makes unusual mechanical sounds, has damaged components or remains unstable after the approved checks. Contact the original seller or manufacturer with the model, order details and a short video of the issue. Do not disassemble motors, control boxes or lifting columns.

For an ULTI setup, start with the product documentation and browse standing desks and monitor arms by their published specifications.

Frequently asked questions

Does a monitor arm make a standing desk wobble?

A heavy or extended arm can make screen movement more noticeable, but the desk and arm should each remain within their stated load and installation requirements.

Can I fix wobble by pushing the desk against a wall?

Do not use a wall as a brace. It can damage the desk or wall and may create a pinch or collision hazard while the desk moves.

Example: checking a desk setup before delivery

Imagine a desk that fits between two walls when measured as a static rectangle. The setup can still fail in daily use if a desktop PC is fixed to the floor, a monitor arm cannot clear the wall, or a power lead becomes tight when the desk rises. A better plan is to place masking tape at the proposed footprint, sit in the chair, and trace where equipment and cables will travel from low to high positions.

Record these numbers

  • Clear room width and depth, including skirting and any doors that swing into the space.
  • Desktop size, height range and the user’s comfortable keyboard height.
  • Space behind the desk for monitor arms, cable movement and ventilation.
  • Weight and position of every item that will move with the tabletop.

Keep this note with the order confirmation. It gives you a useful reference if you need to discuss fit, installation or a later change to the setup.
