A productive home workstation is a system: desk height, chair fit, screen position and cable movement must work together. This checklist helps Singapore buyers plan a setup before purchasing individual items.

1. Start with the room

Measure the clear wall width, desk depth, doorway and route into the room. In compact HDB bedrooms and condo studies, also mark the chair’s pull-back space and any drawers, bedframes or doors that share the area. A desk that fits against the wall can still be impractical if a monitor arm needs rear clearance or a chair blocks the walkway.

2. Choose the desk around the workload

List everything that will sit on or move with the desktop: screens, laptop, speakers, keyboard, tablet, PC holder and power equipment. If choosing a sit-stand desk, test the cable route at low and high positions. Use ULTI’s standing desk finder and three-monitor desk guide to turn those measurements into a shortlist.

3. Set the chair before the monitor

Adjust seat height until feet are supported, then set seat depth, lumbar support and armrests. The keyboard should allow relaxed shoulders and bent elbows. Only after this seated baseline is stable should you set the screen height. The chair adjustment guide explains the sequence.

4. Check monitor-arm compatibility properly

Confirm the screen’s bare weight, VESA pattern, VESA recess and rear housing against the exact arm’s published limits. Then inspect desk thickness and the underside at the intended clamp location for drawers, support bars or cable trays. Screen size alone is not enough. Use the monitor arm compatibility checker before ordering.

5. Plan movement and power

Move a monitor arm through its full travel and raise the desk through its full range before finalising cables. Leave enough slack that no plug, power strip or data cable bears weight at the highest position. A PC holder and cable tray can create a neater result only when they are installed within their published limits and the desk can still move freely.

Use a single setup record

Keep a note with room measurements, product models, desktop load, monitor specification, chair settings and support terms. It makes compatibility checks clearer and helps if you later change a screen or accessory. For an in-person check, bring your monitor model and desk measurements to the ULTI showroom.

Make this guide useful for your own setup

Turn the advice above into a short record of measurements, product models and the features you need. Compare the published specification for the exact version you are buying, then test the physical fit before final installation. A careful check now is more useful than a general promise based on category or appearance.

Before buying

  • Measure the room, desk and any existing equipment.
  • Check the correct load, size and compatibility requirements.
  • Read delivery, warranty and return terms for the seller and version selected.

Validate the plan before installation

Before committing to the final position, lay out the equipment and check its complete path of movement. This means more than checking whether an item physically fits on the desk: confirm access to ports, ventilation, comfortable reach, cable routing and clearance from walls, drawers and chair arms. If the setup includes a powered desk, test it at the lowest and highest working position with normal equipment connected.

Keep a simple decision record

Save the exact product model, dimensions, weight or load details, compatibility information and the terms that apply to the purchase. Photograph the intended mounting area before installation. These small steps make it easier to confirm fit with a seller and make future changes to the setup much less uncertain.

Where an instruction manual or product specification conflicts with general advice, follow the manual for the exact product version. That is the reliable way to turn a guide into a safe, workable setup.
