A chair can feel comfortable for five minutes and still be a poor match for a full workday. This self-check helps you collect the measurements that matter before choosing an ergonomic chair in Singapore. It does not diagnose pain or replace clinical advice; it helps you compare your body, desk and chair adjustment range in a consistent way.
The five measurements to take
- Lower-leg length: sit on a firm chair with feet flat. Measure from floor to the crease behind the knee. This helps you judge whether the chair can reach a seat height that lets your feet rest securely.
- Thigh length: measure from the back of the buttocks to the back of the knee. A suitable seat depth supports the thighs without pressing into the knee crease.
- Seated elbow height: measure from the seat to the underside of a relaxed elbow. Compare it with your desk and armrest height so shoulders can stay relaxed while typing.
- Hip and shoulder space: consider whether the seat and armrests give you room to change posture without the armrests colliding with the desk.
- Seated head height: if you want a headrest, check whether it can support your head without pushing it forward in your normal computer posture.
Set the chair in the right order
Begin with seat height and feet. Then set seat depth, lumbar support, armrests, recline and headrest. Change one control at a time and work for several minutes before deciding whether the adjustment helped. If you cannot get stable foot support, a small gap behind the knees and relaxed shoulders at the same time, the chair or desk height may not suit the setup.
Bring the desk into the decision
Measure the desk underside and check whether armrests can slide beneath it at your preferred height. A chair can fit your body but still create a poor workstation when the desk is too high, armrests are blocked or the monitor is low. Use ULTI’s chair adjustment guide alongside the standing desk height guide to set the whole workstation.
Compare published specifications, not labels
Terms such as ergonomic, mesh and adjustable do not establish fit on their own. For every chair on your shortlist, check the published seat-height range, seat-depth adjustment, armrest range, lumbar adjustment and headrest design. If those values are not available for the exact version being sold, ask before ordering. Where possible, test the chair using your normal typing posture at the ULTI showroom and record the settings that work for you.
Next step
Use the ergonomic chair finder to narrow the live range, then compare product specifications and current availability. This approach is more reliable than choosing a chair solely by a review, a body-height label or a photograph.
Make this guide useful for your own setup
Turn the advice above into a short record of measurements, product models and the features you need. Compare the published specification for the exact version you are buying, then test the physical fit before final installation. A careful check now is more useful than a general promise based on category or appearance.
Before buying
- Measure the room, desk and any existing equipment.
- Check the correct load, size and compatibility requirements.
- Read delivery, warranty and return terms for the seller and version selected.
